  • Unjust Is Not the Same as Inefficient

    Fixing the hiring system requires changing what the organization is actually optimizing for, not just improving the instruments it uses to pursue the current goal.

    That means naming the tradeoff explicitly. Defensibility and capability are not always in conflict, but they are in tension. A hiring process optimized entirely for defensibility will sacrifice some capability. A process optimized for capability will accept some reduction in procedural certainty.
